Starting in the mid 19th century, many people with the romanized surnames Dea, Der, Dear, and other variations thereof came to America from villages in this part of Hoiping.

 

Contents of this site

Asian American Studies: 1) This site includes written accounts of Asian American experience and short research essays. These may be of particular use to teachers and students of Asian American and Ethnic Studies, as well as anyone interested in the experience of Asians in America. 2) The core content of the site are photographs of Asian American communities, primarily in the SF Bay Area, including photo maps of Asian American neighborhoods dating from the early 1980s to the present. These images should be of interest to community planners and advocates as well as teachers, students, and others concerned with the character and evolution of Asian American communities and neighborhoods.

Visual Research Methods: Additional content includes basic essays and guides related to visual research methods; these are directed at those who wishing to use such methods in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Visual Anthropology/Sociology, photography, and other fields. Associated photographic and visual research essays and reports are included.
