Here is an alternate view of the boat at China Camp in 2008. The construction used is essentially the same as that of North American small boats of the same time period, like dories and skiffs, with flat side and bottom boards attached to ribs. What is uniquely Chinese is the form and construction details of the transom or back of the boat seen in the foreground here.
